Part I: The Spiral Labyrinth

Background:
The year is 2307 C.E. Fossil fuels have all but vanished, and the distribution of energy throughout the world has become unbalanced. Humanity now relies on three orbital solar power systems controlled by three multinational power blocs: the Union of Free Nations (Union), the Human Reform League (HRL), and the Advanced European Union (AEU). With this nearly inexhaustible source of energy benefiting only these three powers and their allies, constant warfare has erupted around the globe among minor countries for precious access to energy. Countries whose economy relied solely on the sale of fossil fuels are now plunged into poverty, promoting the creation of terrorist groups.

The Issue:
After a recent terrorist attack against the Human Reform League's China-based orbital power system, the League has found incriminating evidence suggesting that the terrorists were financially supported by the Advanced European Union and given arms by the Union of Free Nations*. In response to the discovery of these pieces of evidence, the League has placed all of its military forces in high alert status and has deployed armies and naval fleets near the borders of both the Union and AEU.

*Although the Union initially attempted to simmer tensions, the assassination of Union Prime Minister Clement Woodward by an HRL sympathizer has ended nearly all hopes of a peaceful settlement.

Goal:
As members of these three power blocs, prevent a third global conflict.
